I think that Gillis will spend more time dealing with Keslers issues than any other player over the next 6 months. Then he'll be traded...

...hopefully to Buffalo.

Lefty I read your last post on the last blog.

Trading for staal is not a good thing. He has one year then becomes a free agent where it is reported he wants to sign in Carolina with his brother. We need to get rid of this Staal theory .Burrows is worth much more than a prospect.

I don't mind the players you wanted to trade .I just was not thrilled about the return for them.Tou are on the right track but think bigger.

Ian I still wonder why it is so hard to find players to play on his line. Miccah said yesterday "He is the second line and the secondary scoring" That is a lot to invest in one player. If he fails the team fails. With a body that keeps breaking down and an attitude of a two year old throwing a tantrum, is this a good route to go down for the Canucks?

For god sakes I am sick and tired of hearing about Cody Hodgson.

The guy wasn't THAT good, hell he had points in only 5 of the 20 games he played for Buffalo and that was with getting front-line minutes with front-line linemates and he was a -7 in those 20 games.

I wish everyone would just shut up about Cody. He might turn into a decent center down the road but apparently he didn't want to be in Vancouver and was more interested in being a big fish in a little pond than a little fish in a big pond.

He'd rather be a front-line player on a non-playoff team than a supporting player on a contender. I think that says plenty about Cody's so-called "character"

Hes better talent to be a top line guy on a team rather than a supporting player.

We missed the playoffs not because of Cody.

He will be great. Just like you all told us when he was traded.

I don't know if the Canucks medical team missed this injury, it's very likely that they knew but he decided to play through it. Same thing as Taylor Hall, he played with the same injury since Jr's and decided to get it fixed this off season.

That said, if Oiler fans want to mock Kesler about this they probably shouldn't seeing how Hemsky has basically been milking a torn Labrum for two seasons while Kesler played through one. Stick to the diver jokes though.

Knowing Kesler..... The guy who wanted his finger chopped off so he could play in the playoffs years ago, obviously was trying to play through it. He needs protection from himself. Hopefully the Canucks learnt this the hard way. They should keep him out till December just to be safe. Does anyone know if those injuries can get worse? I wonder if the medical staff told him it'd be a 6 month procedure and he decided to get it after the playoffs. Because if he would have gotten it late in the year he would have missed them.

He'll be a great player in the offensive zone. Terrible in the neutral and defensive.

Here's the person that said Luongo would ask for a trade last December when all of you flamed me. Apparently this person has a source in the canucks organization. High up. Take it for what you want.

On AV:

Wants to come back. Was part of the decision re Luongo/Cory and is fine with how it all went down. Has been silent waiting for MG to get his deal and business attended to. MG wants him back and it is expected that he will get a similar 4 year extension same as MG. MG has assured several players that AV will be back. The players are big AV supporters and want him back. A feeling of unfinished business. WOW.

On Luongo:

Toronto is the front runner, for now. Allaire is the draw that has Luongo putting them on his list that does not exist. The cost will be high as MG does have 3 other teams that are also very high on Luongo but MG wants to try and deal Luongo to one of his top two choices, not at the risk of a bad deal, however.

Kassian:

Players love him and feel he is the real deal. Described as a good kid and real team player. Was just a little lost at the end of the year and hasn't found a role. He is described as very reserved and shy. Team has him on a strict off season training plan and the players are very high on what he can bring to the team down the road. Next year may be a little too early to see what it is felt he can bring so time will tell.

Hodgson:

Not missed

Salo:

Wants to come back one more year. Canucks have said the same thing to him as last year, we want you back but we have to wait to see what we can afford over the summer.

Burrows:

Took a home team discount last time with no regrets but won't this time around. Wants to re-sign but at full market value or he will go to UFA.

Manny:

Canucks are unsure whether he can regain his form and he may be bought out if he can't. They are very non comital about him but will not go into the season with him if he has not improved his all round game.

MayRay:

Still up in the air if they qualify him. Don't feel he is worth the money he would make but don't want to lose an asset for nothing. Will try to move his rights before July 1.

Edler:

Undisclosed injuries but I can't get any more than that but I'm thinking the back is just not right.

Pahlsson:

Are very high on him and would like him back as their third line centre, which could mean another nail for Manny.

Down on the Farm:

They are expecting 2-4 players to make an impact at camp. Hopeful Eddie can be back up but they aren't sure if he is ready. Camp will tell but they are also looking for a veteran back up if Luongo is moved. High on Connaughton and he may get a hard look this year. Our diminutive centre will get a long look especially with Kesler's rehab. Would like at least 2 players to break through and make the team for obvious cap reasons and for future development reasons.

I'm not surprised. He wasn't remotely the same player as the guy that almost single handedly beat the Preds last year.

Ian - if you just read the frickin paper you'll see that Gilman commented on it.

"Ryan experienced shoulder pain throughout the year and it got to a point where he needed to get it checked out," assistant general manager Laurence Gilman said in a phone interview. "He saw two specialists (in February) and the diagnosis at that time was that his labrum was torn and the decision had to be rendered with respect to playing through it to the end of the season or getting his shoulder repaired.

"Ryan wanted to keep playing and once we were satisfied that his health wasn't going to be placed in jeopardy, we agreed to let him continue to play."

Taylor Hall had this same surgery a few weeks ago. Apparently he's played with a torn labrum since juniors.

He will improve but he was an extremely early bloomer. If you look at his development curve over the last 4 1/2 years it's not that steep. Obviously his back injury had something to do with that but his stride has not improved over that time and that has a lot to do with his defensive game. He's doesn't commit himself enough and when he falls behind on a check he doesn't have the acceleration to get back into position. I don't see anything more than a second line center/powerplay specialist but I could be proven wrong. He may put up points next year but he'll definitely be on for more scoring chances against than for. You can take that to the bank and coaches hate that.

Edler's a UFA after next year too, I know he'll sign here easily as oppose to taking a chance that Jordan will. Just having some fun with it.

Unfortunately I believe this team will look much the same next year as it did this year, which is TOTALLY disappointing!!!
